How Much Should We Revere God’s Word, and Should Bible Pages Be Marked Up?

When I was a teenager, I was taught by my mom to revere the Bible. It was good that she instilled in me a healthy respect for Holy Scripture, as it is, of course, the inspired Word of God; here is 2 Timothy 3:16-17, which I often quote: “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.” [emphasis mine] In doing so, my mother perhaps took this reverence thing a little too far. She stressed to me to never place other over books physically on top of any Bible. For example, if I were carrying a pile of books or resting them on a table, and a Bible was one of them, then God’s Word needed to always on top and out in front.
