Anti-Christian Meme-Busting: The Exodus

January 23, 2018 at 1:33 pm by Scott Roberts

dont-let-halt-make-you-weak-sin-temptationMemes are stupid. Memes are dangerous. As fun and often humorous as these passed-around images on the internet can sometimes be, memes are one of the multitude of things that are causing society to become more divisive and decay faster into an unrecognizable mass of dung. Why? Well, for starters, hardly anybody fact-checks memes, pics or screenshots of comments or tweets that are shared around social media quicker than…

How Much Should We Revere God’s Word, and Should Bible Pages Be Marked Up?

November 01, 2017 at 6:35 am by Scott Roberts

should-bible-pages-be-marked-upWhen I was a teenager, I was taught by my mom to revere the Bible. It was good that she instilled in me a healthy respect for Holy Scripture, as it is, of course, the inspired Word of God; here is 2 Timothy 3:16-17, which I often quote: “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.” [emphasis mine] In doing so, my mother perhaps took this reverence thing a little too far. She stressed to me to never place other over books physically on top of any Bible. For example, if I were carrying a pile of books or resting them on a table, and a Bible was one of them, then God’s Word needed to always on top and out in front. To do otherwise was to show great disrespect…

Don’t Believe in Yourself…Seriously!

September 13, 2017 at 10:23 pm by Scott Roberts

dont-believe-in-yourself-self-loveQuite possibly the single greatest problem that has ever plagued mankind is the sin of pride. The iniquity of taking our focus off of God and applying it to ourselves in the guise of self-love and self-reliance is something that goes literally back to the Garden of Eden.

Adam and Eve were deceived by Satan’s lie that by doubting God and going our own way, Eve could “be like God’ (Genesis 3:5). As a result of this very act…

The Yellow Light – Are We As Christians Too Much Like This World?

June 16, 2017 at 12:30 pm by Scott Roberts

yellow-light-are-we-as-christians-too-much-like-the-world road rage“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” – Romans 12:2

Although the practice of email forwarding is waning because of the proliferation of sharing on social media instead, I still get a decent number various messages, jokes, sayings and pics fulling up my inbox. Oh, I do have to quickly mention that the overall volume of these emails that I receive has gone down by approximately 37%…

Where’s the Joy?

May 08, 2017 at 7:30 pm by Scott Roberts

Christians should be the most joyful people on Earth

Christians should be the most joyful people on Earth.

Millions of Christians all across the nation and around the world have claimed to washed by the blood of Jesus Christ and born again by the Spirit, yet they are robotically plodding along living humdrum middle-class lives and just “don’t have it.” There’s no infectious enthusiasm and no heart overflowing. There’s a lack of something there that non-believers can see in us. These believers, instead, are just like the world.

When we put our complete trust in Jesus Christ, we are to have that otherworldly joy. Consider what the Apostle Peter said…

You Must Unlearn What You Have Learned

April 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm by Scott Roberts

you-must-unlearn-what-you-have-learnedDon’t drag your pre-existing philosophies and politics into Christianity.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a conservative, politically speaking. Okay, technically, that’s true. There was a large portion of my childhood where I was clearly apolitical. It wasn’t really until my early teens that I knew I was a mild-to-moderate fan of President Ronald Reagan.

The period from the rest of my teenage years through all of my twenties is when I really…

When Things Are Quiet with God

April 10, 2017 at 6:00 pm by Scott Roberts

when-things-are-quiet-with-god

If you’ve been a faithful believer in Jesus Christ, then you have probably had periods where you know that God has worked miraculously in your heart. You’ve been wowed by His presence, and He’s made things grow and metamorphize in your life in ways that you can’t even describe. You know that God is on the move!

There are other times that, well, God seems silent. You’ve prayed for things to happen, to little (or no) avail. You’ve plateaued; and while it seems like nothing is really “wrong” per se, you an unsettling mixture of feeling of stagnancy and quiet. What gives? Has God abandoned you? Is He done with you?
